The origins of our business go back to 1953 when two friends, Stan Powney and Fred Zebedee decided to start their own business Zebedee & Powney. Right from the start the business was known for taking on all types of work allied to Motor and General Engineering and the main objective was to do a good job at a reasonable price. The business took on the Ford franchise in 1966 and along with its General Engineering side continued to be successful.
Around 1972 Graham Zebedee decided to try branching out into Engine remanufacture. He was a time served machinist and along with the motor trade connections felt that it would be an interesting side to the business. This side too was successful and by the new millennium was employing around seven staff.
By now the premises of Zebedee & Powney were beginning to show their age and needed a lot of money invested. Luckily an opportunity arose to sell the site to a developer allowing the business to relocate to newer premises. The two partners at this time, Graham and John Zebedee, decided to go their own ways and start two new companies. John continued with ’Ford’ sales and servicing and moved to Lyneham. Graham moved the Engineering side onto Calne’s Industrial Estate and renamed it Zebedee Engineering Ltd.
The new company continues to invest in the engine remanufacturing process and has state of the art equipment and fully skilled staff. Additionally the company has also diversified into the vehicle service and repair sector that it has worked so closely with over the years. Having vehicle lifts and service bays enables us to fit exchange engines and gear boxes keeping the whole process in house. Our parts department stocks a wide range of both engine parts and service items, including oils. We always endeavour to offer the best prices possible and carry varying lines to offer the customer an economic choice.
